This past Thursday at the Carlton R. Rouh Veterans Center, we gathered once again for our weekly Coffee and Conversation, and it was a special one as we celebrated the birthdays of two of our very own heroes — Bill Turner and Clarence Cummings 🎉🎂![]()
Happy Birthday to both of you! We thank you for your service and wish you continued health, happiness, and many more years of blessings. It’s always an honor to celebrate our veterans together.![]()
We also extend our heartfelt congratulations to retired Col. Ted Gallagher, Director of Camden County Veterans Affairs, on receiving the 2026 Camden County Freedom Medal Award 🏅. This prestigious honor is well deserved, and we thank him for his continued dedication and service to our veterans.![]()

Last Thursday, January 15th, 2026, veterans, family, and friends gathered at the Carlton R. Rouh Veterans Center to remember and honor our brother and dear friend, Sergeant Edward Underwood.![]()
We gathered not just to mourn, but to remember a life of service, dedication, and love. Sergeant Underwood proudly served in the United States Air Force beginning in the early 1970s and later continued his service in the United States Army until June 15th, 1977.![]()
Ed was deeply loved by so many. Alongside his brother Bob, he helped renovate the Carlton R. Rouh Veterans Center, a place he truly made his home. His presence, commitment, and kindness were felt by everyone who walked through those doors.![]()
During the memorial service, Ted Gallagher from the Camden County Veterans Affairs presented the United States flag to Ed’s partner, Theresa, in a powerful and emotional moment. The Marine Corps League Detachment of Somerdale, NJ, respectfully posted the colors, adding great honor to the ceremony. Ted also shared heartfelt words about Ed’s military career and service to our nation.![]()
Michael and Kathleen Van Stine spoke movingly about Ed’s life, his impact, and what he meant to the Spectracare Foundation and the veteran community. Ed’s legacy of service, friendship, and compassion will live on through all of us.![]()
It was an emotional and meaningful service, reflecting just how active, respected, and loved Ed was among fellow veterans, family and friends.![]()
Sergeant Edward Underwood, you will never be forgotten. 🇺🇸 Rest in peace!
